Does my Motherboard Support SataII?
I've always been on IDE and i know my motherboard has 4 sata ports. But i dont know if you can run sataII on them as it is much cheaper.

nope sata 1 has 150mbs speed(which yours has)
sata2 has 300mbs speed

SATAII is backward compatible with SATA. That is, SATAII drives will work on your motherboard, but at SATA speeds. Seeing as how most hard drives don't even come up to SATA speeds, there's not much loss. And, of course, you can then carry your drives over to a new system if and when.

So it doesnt support sataII but i can use a sataII harddrive on the sata1 ports with sata1 speed.
This would be usful for me as i plan to build my next pc this year with a sataII drive that i have chosen to use.
Are you 100% sure that this will work?
just being carful thats all.

What Quaker said is correct, it does indeed work. I've done it on my older computer with two 250GB SATAII drives while it only supports SATA on the motherboard.
PS. Depending on the situation, if you plan on installing an OS on an SATA drive, you may need to have motherboard drivers (SATA/RAID Controller on a USB device/diskette) while you install in order to detect the drives at all.

Yeah, SATA is the same USB when it comes to backwards compatibility. i.e. You can use a USB1.0 device in a USB2.0 slot but it only works at the USB1.0 speeds. The same as you can use a SATA II drive on a SATA I motherboard.

Like said earlier, the speed wont be affected either. Even the fastest HDD only can manage about 80MB/s in a linear read. And that's rather rare because HDDs spend most of their time seeking. I wish HDDs could do even 100MB/s full time.

Yep. However, you may have to change the jumper pin on the back of the drive before you put it in. The drive's instruction book should tell you if this is necessary.
